Epic Transparency

"We’re spending significantly more than we’re making, and we have to make major cuts to keep the company funded"

While the mistake is the same (over-hiring during COVID), with the same root cause (naive assumptions that the growth rate would sustain indefinitely), and the same result (large layoffs), one's got to give the gaming industry respect for doing what their SaaS cousins couldn't: saying the truth about the challenges of running a medium-to-large tech business in the current economic climate.

I'm not a fan nor a player of Epic's products, yet I appreciate the transparency on display [i].

It still feels funny to celebrate a human saying things as they are, but I think we all got used to it not being the baseline anymore in the age of widespread machine-generated content. 😬

My heart goes to all those affected, and if it's of any relief, please know you have been treated with more respect than hundreds of thousands of tech workers affected by layoffs since 2023 in Mid-Big Tech. ❤️
